#BalletMustFall

#BalletMustFall: A 60-minute Dance-Play-Satire like a one of those political cartoons one finds in newspapers.
Scripted & Choreographed by Jared Musiker feat. contributions by Londiwe Khoza, Asisipho Malunga, & Ipeleng Merafe

Everything that Degas could not paint is sketched by this performance. #BalletMustFall permits the audience a peak beneath the tutu of South African Classical dance to witness how “ballerina pink” must be hand-dyed to compliment the hue of imperial simulacra.

The dance-play happens within the holes of wear and tear that appear on the fabric of fantastic roles from which emerge the rare laments of a young queer ballerin'’s voice.

The rest is a satirical cartoon, a protest, and a dancer’s manifesto, like those absurd newspaper drawings between sensational headlines.

The following images by Jared Musiker formed part of the promotional and inspirational material used during the creative process and marketing of the show.

-(Premier) Alexander Bar Theatre, Cape Town, South Africa. (Jan 2016) (Sold out)

*Celestial Origins*

Anglo-Gold Ashanti Award Ceremony for the 2014 competition in GOLD Jewellery Design.

An unforgettable evening in Cape Town. Dancers adorned with the finalists' solid African gold pieces floated in between the guests like cosmic wonders. The event was the result of a collaboration between Flance Directive Creators, styling by David-the-Stylist and performance direction by Jared Musiker.
